Some friends and I are planning a camping trip (haven't decided where yet) and I was wondering if anyone can tell me from experience what the off-road limits of my car are. It handles decently on the beach but would it be ok to take into muddy places or steep inclines? I don't want to get stuck somewhere.

I wouldn’t try too much with it, but I bet it will surprise you with what it will make it through. Last fall I had to drive my wife’s Equinox up for a hunting trip and it snowed like crazy for 2 days. The “road” (two track sort of logging road, sort of snowmobile trail) was 3 to 6 inches of mud, with standing water on top, then 6 to 10 inches of snow on the ground. I beat the crap out of that equinox and it took it all and still ran 80 mph all the way home. One point on the road was so flooded and mucked up i had to back up and hit it about 35 to 40 mph and force through it, the car got slowed down to about 20 or less, but it never got stuck. The tires on it were about worn out also (3 to 4/32 left) and were due to be replaced before winter.

Take it off the highway back to the dealership and trade it for a real Jeep.

the compass was not designed off-road use, buy a cj,yj,tj, if you want to go off-road, buy lockers, a lift, gears, and a rollcage
YOU WILL GET STUCK!!!

To this date I haven’t heard of anyone taking a Compass off road, Patriot yes, Compass No. I think if you know where your going and know the condition of the road, you may be okay. If your going to unfamilar territory then may not want to try it. Best thing is to make sure someones got a tow strap etc incase you do get stuck.

I wouldn’t take it any farther than the tow-trucks winch cable can reach.

I wouldn’t take it on any trail rated higher than 2.5

Man there harsh on the compass its probably a little better than what everyones saying. although im kinda in agreement it for a jeep its pretty melow.
If your going with friends and taking another 4×4 who cares if you get stuck just take a tow strap.
least then you’ll know where you stand and you’ll have another truck to pull you out. main problem with stock vehicles is they have no ground clearence.
With that being said kinda funny how you word you question. what are the off road limits of my car. its like you not even convinced.

The Compass has a limited off road capability. If you drive off the road you should be able to get back on. Its about as a good trail vehicle a an old subaru. Its 4 wheel drive is pretty much there just in case the road is snowy, or the dirt road is muddy. I would not take it on a trails. You will probably get stuck if you tried to crawl over a log.

The Compass is a AWD car, not a truck. It might have good enough traction for some mud, but it is not geared for steep inclines, nor does it have the ground clearance for rocks, etc.
No Compass has Chrysler’s self proclaimed “trail rated” seal of approval, so that should really tell you about it’s (lack of) off road capabilities.
I wouldn’t risk it.

Don’t Go Off Road In That Thing? I Wouldn’t Even Take On The Beach. It’s Made For Snow And Heavy Rain, Not Mud Trails. Sorry : (

Should make it over the curb and across the lawn if the grass isn’t too tall.
