Camping is safe if you know what your doing and not overconfident in your skills or abilities. I`ve been camping and hiking all my life and have yet to have any problems. If your prepared for things, accidents-first aid kits or training, weather-tarps or good rain gear, firebuilding- using a roadflare to start fires in downpours or really bad weather. so Be prepared. Go with a group if you are not comfortable by yourself or with another individual and have fun!
Camping is pretty safe. Just getting out of any population center increases the level of safety around you. Be ready for the place where you are going and use some common sense. Until I started college, I spent a good deal of my time alone, away from people. If you go with friends and family you’ll be with people, which is safer than being alone.
Like my father used to tell me when I was a kid,” the woods is about the safest place a fella could be “. I’m more worried walking the streets of Spokane after dark. Of course thats if I was going into town .

Depends on where you go. I always take a side arm while camping.
