I`ve been camping and hiking all my life and have yet to have any problems. If your prepared for things, accidents-first aid kits or training, weather-tarps or good rain gear, firebuilding- using a roadflare to start fires in downpours or really bad weather. so Be prepared. Just getting out of any population center increases the level of safety around you. Be ready for the place where you are going and use some common sense.
