My boyfriend and I are very outdoors type people so when we go on vacation we go camping. We have Labs so they fit in so well. We also always go where there is water so we can hike and Kayak, and swim. We usually use the internet to research our trips or we ask friends who also have similar interest as we do.

This is such a good question. I have 3 dogs, 2 cats and 2 Guinea Pigs, and 2 kids !!! Going on holiday is such a major problem because the family want to go on holiday, but I hate leaving all the pets !!! I've thought about a caravan but the cats may wander off, and with 3 large dogs there won't be much room. I've looked briefly at renting a cottage but most are limited to 1 or 2 'small' dogs.... so I will be reading these answers with much interest !!??

We have 5 dogs. Whenever we go on vacation we kennel 3 or 4 of them and take whichever one(s) would be more suitable to take depending on the place we're heading. If we're renting a beach house or cottage somewhere we tend to take the three smallest and kennel the 2 largest. If we're going on a camping trip we'll bring the whole lot if we feel we can handle it! Hehe! I believe oftentimes there are limits to how many dogs or how many pounds your combined pets can weigh when staying in a hotel or something similar and most always a per-pet fee. We usually do research on the internet mostly because it's readily available.

First of all, I go nowhere without my dogs! So I either make sure that where I am going welcomes dogs or I just take brief holidays, which I call "road trips!" I couldn't go with my sister and her family for a holiday trip just after Christmas, because I would have had to leave my dogs at home. Was I disappointed? Only that my dogs were not a factor in their plans. I enjoyed being with my dogs!
I have 2 dogs, a 3 year old Boston Terrier-who works with me and a 12 year old Boston Terrier/Heeler mix, who goes to work with me but stays in her crate when I am not on a break. They do not want to stay home: period! They love going with me everywhere. Although I make sure that I either make accommodations for them if it is going to be hot or they have to stay home. I would never consider putting my dogs at risk!
I check on line for dog friendly places and area dog parks or dog friendly parks. I always make sure I have first aid for my for my dogs, water and a spill proof water bowl, a fan, food and treats, dog beds, blankets and towels in my car. My dogs travel in car seats so they can enjoy their trips safely as well as see out the window without leaving my windows dirty!
I would love to travel more with them and would consider a motor home or trailer when traveling with them! But there are more and more hotels and parks that are becoming dog friendly. You just have to take the time to research! Happy trails!

I used to have that problem - but our dog died about a year ago. I noticed more and more that holidays became a problem as a dog owner, so we used to either rent a caravan or go camping with our big frame tent. We never booked, just drove where we wanted to go and pitched on a nice site. Most sites take dogs - but not all. Beaches were the biggest problem, when you want to take your dog on the beech there's usually only a tiny thin strip where dogs are allowed. Strange really, but dog owners are made to feel like 2nd class citizens, and it's wrong.
