Hi All!
So my house is white (panel siding) and has black accents (window edges, the door awning, side security door, etc. The front door is white and I think it’d really pop if it was a nice black. So do I paint the door like I would any wall? Just take off the knobs or cover them up and go for it.. paint it black?? It seems too simple lol. Also what kind of paint would be best for this job (flat, semi gloss, etc). Thanks in advance!

I have recently re-discovered the painting “Paris Street; Rainy Day” by Gustave Caillebotte (1848-94), and discovered that this was painted based on a real intersection in Paris :
The setting: The couple in front are walking on the rue de Turin near its intersection with the rue de Moscou. The location, which still exists today, is north of the Saint-Lazare train station. Caillebotte owned property in this neighborhood. Today, a pharmacy (inset, green awning) at the intersection displays one of Caillebotte’s studies for Rainy Day behind the counter.
I am looking for a photo taken of this intersection as close to the same angle as depicted in the painting (I realize that the painting is not to scale). I have tried Google Street view but can not find a good angle.
Ideally I would like to find a photograph taken of people re-creating this painting.
So far all I can find is the really small photo from the site below and the angle does not appear correct, and the image way too small.http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazi…
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, thanks for any advise:
I need to paint a sign (business name + phone #) on a store-front awning (green fabric). I would like to have some sort of masking adhesive film, that I could print/write letters on and then cut them out. Attach the film to the awning, use a sponge to paint in the letters, and then peal the masking film. Any suggestions as to what film to use, and where to get it?
Thanks again.

I painted the shutters a nice deep blue….I plan on painting the front door the same blue & buying a white storm door….I need to know how to tactfully accent the white awning with touches of the blue…I know too much blue would look awful/busy, opinions?

My Landlord would like me to paint the awning over her front porch. It is aluminum and the paint is flaking away in big pieces. It is not that big an awning, maybe 8′ by 4′ or so of surface area. I don’t want to charger her to much but I also don’t know how long it would take.
Should I just quote her an hourly rate and go from there?

I can’t afford to replace it right now and we need something there for shade so taking it down is not an option right now. The underside can be seen (which is downright ugly and old) from our family room through our glass patio doors and of course if you are sitting under it. Painting it seems extremely difficult so I was wondering if there are any creative people out there who might have ideas to cover the underside with fabric or some other kind of material. My home has an asian/contemporary feel to it.
