wouldnt start after cam sensor was replaced tries to start
I have a 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3, I think it has a timing chain not a belt, am I correct?
It has covered only 38000 miles in 15 years, it runs great but I am thinking I should change the chain.
after 15 years I would change a belt, but is it neccessary to change a chain, just because of age?
you need to give an engine size for that one there was to many different engines it could have had in it,good luck.
Well, you gotta have the 3.3, or 3.8 cause the others have belts. This isn’t a routine maintenance, as timing belts. Chains are only replaced when broken, or ’slapping”.
This isn’t a job for the squeamish! lots of blood, guts and gore, and a bit of cussing!
This job is listed as a 3.4 hr job in the labor manual. You have to pull the oil pan, and remove engine mounts, water pump, etc. If you are handy and still want to tackle the job and are too cheap to buy a shop manual (just kidding, it’s OK to be cheap!), then check out your library. They usually have Chilton’s, or Motors manuals. Read all the different steps prior to starting, and if you have a digital camera, take a few pictures along the way to help you locate parts. You will need a puller to remove the balancer, I think that is the only “special” tool. AutoZone has loaner tools free if you need them.
Good Luck.
I was told by my regular mechanic that is trust worthy that I need my timing set but I cant afford to have it done I need to do it myself can someone tell me how? Thanks
The camshafts do not turn, the crankshaft does – does that indicate that the timing belt is broken or is it something else?
How can I get the manual to fix it? Haines and Chilton are not detailed enough. I need the shop manual and Mopar does not seem to have it available. Is there one out there? Ebay does not have it either…
